Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman Listens to Farmers
Sunday, March 28th, 2010
Farmers, community members and leaders joined Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman Saturday morning for a Farmers’ Breakfast in Lynnville hosted by Ron Bacon, candidate for House District 75 and our campaign. Folks attended from Warrick, Spencer, Dubois, Perry, Gibson, and Vanderburgh counties. In her remarks, the Lieutenant Governor outlined the efforts she has taken as the “CEO” of agriculture and rural affairs for the state of Indiana. She recognized that Indiana is a net exporter of agricultural products and she has led a number of trade missions to secure more markets for Hoosier farmers. She shared the passage of the agricultural property assessment bill at the end of this legislative session which will use the last six years of revenues dropping the highest year. (more…)

Good Things Are Happening in District 74
Friday, March 19th, 2010
Though the economy may be still be slow, some communities don’t wait for the federal government to fix things for them. A great example was Wednesday evenings’ Four Seasons of Business sponsored by Ferdinand’s HomeTown Competitiveness Entrepreneurship Pillar. Approximately 50 entrepreneurs and community members from the region gathered to hear John Schneider, prolific inventor from NWSC Crane, speak on his patents and the potential commercial opportunities. The Dept of Defense wants companies to commercialize these patents. Folks at this event “got it”. It’s not easy to start a company, but it is incredibly exciting. It is one very important way we will reinvigorate the economies of our small towns. (more…)

Dream Today, Tomorrow and Beyond
Monday, March 8th, 2010
I just attended a “Dream Today, Tomorrow and Beyond” luncheon for women entrepreneurs and business leaders sponsored by the Jasper Chamber of Commerce. There were almost 75 women in attendance! Way to go! The workshop encouraged each of us to consider those dreams we wish to pursue… business, professional, or personal. It appropriately placed dreaming as the first step of the planning process. Thanks to Sandy Smith and Jan Dodd for facilitating and Nancy Eckerle for offering this opportunity to many women throughout our region. Two books I now need to read: The Dream Manager, by Matthew Kelly and Finish Strong by Dan Green.

Campaign Update / Thank You
Saturday, March 6th, 2010
Yesterday the Indiana Election Commission ruled that I remain a candidate. I am so happy to have the opportunity to continue in the race and cannot wait to serve the people of southwest Indiana.
And, thank you to so many who have offered their prayers of support upon my aunt’s passing. Her funeral is at noon today. She was well loved and is now in peace in the presence of our Lord. We will always remember the abundant love she shared with all those she touched.

Aunt Janie
Thursday, March 4th, 2010
Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers for Aunt Janie. By mid-afternoon the neurologist confirmed no brain activity and they took her off life support. Though I wasn’t there when she died, she was surrounded by her family and several of her siblings. I spent the evening with the extended family. There was just a rush of memories of how she was my “Evansville” mother and another grandmother to Lauren and Kara when they were young. She was so much more than my girl’s babysitter. She loved and spoiled them like her own. It was never too late or too early. We were all part of her family.
