Glamour, Glitz and Goals Women’s Event

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

I met some AMAZING women at Perry County’s 2010 Glamour, Glitz and Goals Women’s event yesterday at Tell City’s Schergen’s Center. Thanks to Rebecca Fenn, Executive Director of the United Way for Perry County, for being a fabulous hostess introducing me to the many women leaders, entrepreneurs and “got-it-together” folks. And, as a bonus, there was great shopping to be done! Thanks to the Perry County Community Foundation and all those involved for a terrific event.

Legislation to Watch

Friday, February 19th, 2010

One bill with bipartisan support hit some bumps in the road earlier this week as the Senate was to hear House bill 1055, which provides that grandparents have legal means to seek visitation to grandchildren, not just in the case when parents are divorced or unmarried. After much work, Senate Bill 0059 will be heard Monday morning, February 22, with Jeannie Lester, a Santa Claus resident, as one of two individuals testifying. She is asking anyone interest in attending to call her for a ride: (812) 937-9792 or (812) 305-0230. You may also support this bill by calling Senator Bray’s office letting them know you support and appreciate Senate Bill 0059 being heard.

Warrick Lincoln Day Dinner Inspiring

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

My team and I had the pleasure of attending Warrick GOP’s Lincoln Day Dinner last night with keynote speaker Congressman Mike Pence. Wow!  His insights about the opportunity and importance of these 2010 elections were powerful. The sellout crowd of office holders, candidates and supporters agreed.

As a candidate, I can feel the “wind in our sails” as we talk to folks throughout the district. Thank you Rick Martin, Pat Brooks, Joann Krantz and the strong team who put on this wonderful event. Thanks to Keith Lochmueller and Mike Hinton for hosting us at their table. I am truly looking forward to the opportunity to serve the fine people of Warrick County.

Diversification is “Front and Center” in Dubois County

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

Over the past week I have conducted Listening Sessions in Huntingburg and Ferdinand. These sessions have offered a glimpse of what is really important to people in Dubois county and these communities. There is a dream of a more diversified economy with high tech industry complimenting the current wood manufacturing base. This is to ensure jobs that will provide opportunities for our young people to stay and return.  There is also a dream of more cultural opportunities in both the fine and performing arts improving our quality of life and, again, attracting young people to stay and return. USI – Crane Partnership to Strengthen our Southwest Indiana Region

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

On Saturday I participated in the announcement of USI and Crane’s new Partnership Intermediary Agreement (PIA). This commits USI and Crane to work together to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), help local companies create and produce new products from patents developed at Crane, and to help Crane improve their innovation process.

Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane, is located just north of Loogootee, has almost 3000 employees and contractors, and a budget of over $1.7 billion last year. Crane is a federal research lab primarily for the Navy, but does projects for all branches of the military. They create, modify and problem solve many of the key technologies that protect and support our military men and women on the battlefield: radar, energy and power systems, microwave technologies, and electro-optics, among others. Their scientists and engineers are on the forefront of these fields aiding our warfighters, while creating new patentable discoveries. (more…)
